Grade 7 uses long division with large whole numbers and applies the order of operations to calculations with several steps. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 7 division is taught in Term 1. It comes up in the Grade 7 maths Term 1 test, and again in the final Term 4 exam, which covers all four terms.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Leaving a remainder that is bigger than the divisor, and dropping a zero in the answer: 624 ÷ 6 is 104, not 14.
