Grade 5 converts freely between mm, cm, m and km, works out time intervals from seconds to decades, and measures perimeter, area and volume. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 5 measurement is taught in Term 4. It is tested in the Grade 5 maths Term 4 final exam.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Mixing up perimeter and area, converting 1,5 m to 15 cm instead of 150 cm, and misreading the minute hand on an analogue clock.
