Why primary school past papers help
A past paper shows what a real test looks like: how the questions are worded, how the marks are split and how much time a child has. When learners have worked through a few primary school past papers, the exam room feels familiar instead of frightening. They learn to read instructions carefully, to plan their time and to check their answers before handing in.
Where to find primary school past papers
Your child's school is the best place to start. Teachers often keep old class tests, term tests and November papers, and many schools share them with parents before the exams. Ask the class teacher which topics the next paper will cover, because every school sets its own papers within the CAPS curriculum. Study guides from bookshops also include practice papers with memoranda, and every subject on MeerkatSkool has a free practice paper with memo to print.
On MeerkatSkool you will find practice built the same way as real papers. Every grade has its own page with every subject in English and Afrikaans: Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6 and Grade 7 school tests.
How to use a past paper
- Practise the topics first. Work through each topic on its own before trying a whole paper.
- Write it under exam conditions. Set a timer, put the notes away and work quietly.
- Mark it with the memorandum. Look closely at every mistake.
- Go back to the weak topics. Practise them again a few days later.
A paper done once and put away teaches very little. The learning happens when a child sees why an answer was wrong and tries again.
Memoranda matter as much as the papers themselves. Encourage your child to compare their working with the memo step by step, not only the final answer, because marks are often given for the method.
Practise online between papers
Primary school past papers run out: once a child has done them, the questions are no longer new. Online practice fills the gap. Our November exam revision pages bring every subject together per grade, and the maths tests generate new numbers every time, so a learner can repeat a topic without memorising the answers. For quick daily practice, try the times tables and word problems.
Every question on MeerkatSkool follows CAPS and shows a short explanation after each answer, so practice works like a patient tutor. There is no registration, and it works on a phone, even with little data.
