Grade 7 revises whole numbers and moves on to prime factors of three-digit numbers and the lowest common multiple (LCM) and highest common factor (HCF). In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 7 place value is taught in Term 1. It comes up in the Grade 7 maths Term 1 test, and again in the final Term 4 exam, which covers all four terms.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Reading the 3 in 3 405 as “three” instead of “three thousand”; leaving out the zeros in expanded notation; and rounding down when the deciding digit is a 5.
