Grade 7 calculates a percentage of a whole and percentage increase or decrease, and uses percentages for profit, loss, discount, budgets and simple interest. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 7 percentages are taught in Term 1. It comes up in the Grade 7 maths Term 1 test, and again in the final Term 4 exam, which covers all four terms.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Finding 25% of 80 by dividing by 25 instead of by 4, and mixing up the increase with the new amount after the increase.
