Grade 6 multiplies a four-digit number by a three-digit number, works with multiples and factors of two- and three-digit numbers, and finds prime factors. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 6 multiplication is taught in Term 2. It is tested in the Grade 6 maths Term 2 (June) test, and again in the final exam.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Forgetting the zero placeholder on the second line of long multiplication, and gaps in the times tables — 7 × 8 and 6 × 7 cause most of the wrong answers.
