Grade 6 divides a four-digit number by a three-digit number with long division, and works with more than one operation, with or without brackets. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 6 division is taught in Term 2. It is tested in the Grade 6 maths Term 2 (June) test, and again in the final exam.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Leaving a remainder that is bigger than the divisor, and dropping a zero in the answer: 624 ÷ 6 is 104, not 14.
