Grade 5 divides a three-digit number by a two-digit number — the step where shaky times tables start to show — including remainders. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 5 division is taught in Term 2. It is tested in the Grade 5 maths Term 2 (June) test, and again in the final exam.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Leaving a remainder that is bigger than the divisor, and dropping a zero in the answer: 624 ÷ 6 is 104, not 14.
