Grade 4 place value test
A free Grade 4 place value test online, with answers, for South African learners following CAPS. It draws questions from 5 topics and the numbers change every time, so a child can take it again and again and never meet the same paper twice. Choose 10, 25 or 50 questions.
Grade 4 works with whole numbers up to at least 10 000: counting in 2s, 3s, 5s, 25s and 50s, the place value of four-digit numbers, odd and even numbers, and rounding off to the nearest 10, 100 and 1 000. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 4 place value is taught in Term 1. It is tested in the Grade 4 maths Term 1 test, the Term 2 (June) test, and the basics again in the final exam.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Reading the 3 in 3 405 as “three” instead of “three thousand”; leaving out the zeros in expanded notation; and rounding down when the deciding digit is a 5.
