Grade 7 counts, orders and compares integers and adds and subtracts them, using a number line. In the Department of Basic Education’s teaching plan, Grade 7 integers are taught in Term 2. It comes up in the Grade 7 maths Term 2 test, and again in the final Term 4 exam, which covers all four terms.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Getting −3 − 5 = 2 instead of −8, and thinking −7 is bigger than −2 because 7 is bigger than 2.
