Grade 7 works with formulae, flow diagrams and tables to describe a rule, and with simple algebraic expressions and equations. In the current Department of Basic Education plan, Grade 7 works with formulae, flow diagrams and functions in Term 2; algebraic expressions and equations are part of the full CAPS curriculum and appear in many school papers. It comes up in the Grade 7 maths Term 2 test, and again in the final Term 4 exam, which covers all four terms.
Every answer is marked as you go, with the working shown, so a wrong answer teaches something instead of only costing a mark. Treating 3x + 2 as 5x, and solving x + 5 = 12 by adding 5 instead of taking 5 away.
